Since I had one month vacation I ended up being bored and I can’t
go out because it’s raining outside. So I
ended up watching documentaries in YouTube in an attempt to pass time. I ended
up watching This Video
though I would admit that somehow the twisted part of
me romanticize of the idea that someone would kidnap a woman he loves so much
but the whole world seem not to agree with what they both feel, they run away
into a place where no one know or recognize them and start a new life and they
live happily ever after.
The life of the woman on that video though is not a fairy
tale like ending, as most realities are. These happen in Kyrgyzstan (Know Something about the Country here) a country
in central Asia who have a weird or let me just say sick tradition of
kidnapping their bride. Some are their
friends that they think suited to be their wife, some are GF but they want to
get away with the high price of a bride and worst thing some are strangers.
For me this tradition should be left behind, if a man loves a woman he should be asking for his hands, if a woman loves him back she wont be thinking about his price. Woman is not a commodity that if they go second hand their price will go down. I find this tradition so sick I pity for this girls.
I have heard a lot about shot gun wedding, arrange marriage and child bride but this is the first time I heard about it.. they are sick and twisted. These are the kind of tradition better left behind and forgotten. sigh!
Such a sad thing to be going on :( - running away to cement a forbidden love is one thing, but to actually kidnap someone is quite a scary thought - poor women. x
ReplyDeleteyeah most of them dont really want to marry,they wanted a different life but since the parents can never take run away bride they have no choice.

ReplyDeleteIt is hard for me to hear that this type of pure nonsense is still going on in parts of the world!! Yes, somehow it should be stopped-but until those countries (or parts of countries) change on their own---outsiders will not be able to make them see reason.

DeleteI had no idea this was still going on . You hear about the slave market and black markets and such, but this seems like a different situation all together. What a horrible fate for these women.

DeleteI find this to be extremely disturbing. I don't understand this type of marriage ritual but it does show that women in other countries have no rights or any value. It is sickening to me.

ReplyDeleteThis may sound weird for us who are not used to their culture or folkways. But for them, this practice is in. Well, whatever their culture of marriage as long as they are satisfied and contented of their living, it is socially approved. But generally speaking, most traditions were wrong.

DeleteSuch a tradition makes me love our country even more, where there are no such drastic actions. I pity those girls. I wish there could be done for them, something that can save them from such acts.

So sad that some girls even committed suicide because they are kidnapped and they don't like the life they have with the man. This tradition must be destroyed. No respect for women at all, they must not kidnap women just like that.

DeleteAFAIK, these happens in central asia as well as in other parts of the globe. Though its not very common, the question is "does the bride wants to get kidnapped or not?"

ReplyDeleteIt happens in places where there are no women's rights. This is the 21st century but sadly, there are still many places in the world where women are not respected...yes, even here in the Philippines.
